Build Your Game - Minnesota Hockey Training

methods that yield results.

Personalized Training at Build Your Game means that parents and players can be sure that they are receiving professional, quality hockey training.

OFF THE ICE

Small Group Training ensures that every player receives lots of attention from BYG’s qualified staff. It also ensures that every player receives lots of repetition to help them master all of the skills and techniques taught at BYG. A small group means that players can easily hear what instructors are saying, easily see the techniques being demonstrated, and easily have their technique corrected when necessary.

Build Your Game’s Innovative Shooting and Stickhandling curriculum helps bridge the gap between off-ice training and on-ice performance. Often times, players will practice stickhandling and shooting techniques off the ice that simply can’t be duplicated when on the ice. BYG teaches players how to avoid those pitfalls even when they’re practicing at home or in their home ice rink’s off-ice training room so that they’re always building meaningful muscle memory that will serve them well on the ice.

Inter-disciplinary Strength and Conditioning keeps things fun and fresh throughout the training program. It’s important to be a well-rounded athlete, which is why BYG training draws upon a variety of sports disciplines and exercise philosophies, such as:

• Slideboard Workouts
• Boxing/MMA Training
• Sledgehammer Workouts
• Yoga/Flexibility Training
• Weight Training
• Stability Ball Training
• Full Body Plyometrics
• Core Training

ON THE ICE

Technique Drills isolate skills and techniques that players have been working on off the ice so that they can become comfortable performing them on the ice. BYG utilizes technique drills to practice skating, passing, shooting, and decision-making. Sometimes all in one drill!

Skill-Based Games help keep things fun and engaging for players. They allow players to be competitive as they practice applying their skills and techniques. Competition, in turn, helps build endurance as players try their hardest to win.

Scrimmaging is one of the most direct ways for a player to build their decision making skills and overall hockey sense. When we scrimmage at BYG, whether it’s cross-ice or full-ice, the focus is always on creativity and applying the skills and techniques that we’ve practiced to game situations. Players can build confidence being the kind of player they really want to be without the pressure of “filling their role” or “following team systems”.

Testimonials

  • "What I like about Build Your Game is that it builds your skills up as well as your strength. Players really benefit from the one-on-one training, especially on their hands and shot. The shooting and stickhandling repetitions, the personal attention, and the wide variety of strength building exercises that Build Your Game uses makes this training program a great way to spend your off-season. I would recommend it to any players looking to move on past high school."

  • "I get a great sweat going when I’m at Build Your Game’s off-ice training site. It’s fun to go through exercises that you wouldn’t normally see at other training programs. The higher levels of hockey demand intense training to stay ahead of the competition and I believe Build Your Game offers just that. "
    - Trevor Bruess, player

  • "I liked that we worked very intensely on hand skills and shooting. I've played both Junior A and D3 college hockey and I can tell you that your hands and shot really need to be sharp to succeed at those levels. I think Build Your Game is a great place to get your hands and shot ready for the next level."
